Goats Against GMOs

Our friend Pascal Destandau who is CheeseMaster (I made up that title but it seems apt) and partner in Pugs Leap goat farm and dairy wrote an impassioned letter to the editor of the renouned Healdsburg Tribune expressing his concerns about genetically engineered crops. With his permission I reproduce here the letter in its entirety.

The Buzz is Anti-GMO

I’m a member of the Sonoma County Beekeeper’s Association even though the extent of my involvement is to hold the sugar water spray for my daughter Francesca while she dives into the hive. Longing for animals on our farm, I’m momentarily content with our herd of drones and worker bees.

Meanwhile, perusing the Association's monthly newsletter "The Monthly Extractor", I came upon a tempest in a bee pot.

ADM - Food for Thought?

Archer-Daniels-Midland is a heavyweight in global food production; I would normally group them with the satanic forces of industrial farming. But wait, look what they were discussing at the annual shareholders meeting.  I am so excited by this I won't take the time now to clean it up but promise a synopsis later. In my Author’s Profile on this Blog I list as one of my pastimes political grousing. Well, modern times have given me a lot to grouse about given my predilection for old ways and old values, but much of my prodding is playful. Genetic engineering, or GE, is different though. It is scary and it is permanent. This posting will be one of many in which hopefully I will sharpen my prod from a poke to a stiletto thrust. You, my unwitting audience, get to help by confirming or deflecting my aim.
